#Welcome everyone! A few tips:

- Yes, servers can be temporarily slow when lots of people join at once. Be kind to your admins, they're working hard and it's worth the wait.

- Fill in your bio!

- Hashtags are your friends. Use them to give more visibility to your posts and to find new people to follow. You can even follow hashtags.

- Boost, boost, boost! There's no algorithm here deciding who sees what.

tip: click your own hashtags!

@astro_jcm when there's no algorithm, posts are in chronological order, yes?

Seems that posting regularly rather than all at once would make more sense. I should keep this in mind, since I tend to post a lot in short bursts lol

@PickyBookworm Yes, bu it's more than just the order: the lack of algorithm also means you see all posts from everyone you follow, not just a fraction of them (unlike in the bird site for instance, which filters posts even when you pick the chronological timeline). So in this sense the timing matters way less here, although I'd say that spreading them out probably helps depending on who's online when.
@astro_jcm how do you find what hashtags you follow? do they automatically show up in your local or federated timeline?

@kevix You mean where do posts with those hashtags appear once you follow them? In your home feed.

If instead you mean how to find those hashtags in the first place, most of the time they're just simple thematic words like astronomy or photography. You can type them in the search bar to see if they're popular. I also find other more specific hashtags in posts from people I follow, or in any of the various timelines.

@astro_jcm
I mean that if I 'subscribe' to a hashtag, I don't know where they are listed and how to unsubscribe to there. good to know they show up in the home feed.
@astro_jcm People are the only algorithm here is another way to say it - an algorithm writ directly into the deoxyribonucleic source code.
