mstdn.ca has 4000+ new users since 8 PM last night.
@ArrogantHair dang! Makes sense. I switched to this instance last night and assumed thatโ€™s why it was slow. Seems good now though!! Lots of Canadians on boarding it seems.
@ArrogantHair looks like mstdn.ca is going to become a big hub in the infrastructure. It has the feeling of being a country level instance. I joined it because a friend was here and it had a territorial acknowledgement.
@chriscorrigan We just broke 10,000 users, so it looks like @chad is going big league with the instance. It is really handling the growth well.
@ArrogantHair @chad congrats. I wish you the best on this and thanks for putting in the work.
@ArrogantHair when I first signed up to mastodon I didn't see anything local and nothing came up in the search, so I joined the Meow server ๐Ÿ˜† This is much better, now that we have somewhere to go as Canadians
@ArrogantHair I tried to find a local server a while back and couldnโ€™t find anything - this is what I needed to dive in and give Mastodon a shot.
@dylanshivak A lot of people joined some random servers and then transferred here once they found it. Its visibility has improved.
@dylanshivak Check out the feeds, view users profiles and go through their follows to see and find people to follow. Also do an introduction post - and tag it with hash/introduction. Just say hi and who you are so people can share.
@ArrogantHair Will do! Right now Iโ€™m trying to get a hang of how to navigate vs. Twitter ๐Ÿ˜…
@ArrogantHair the hashtag #ygk brought me here along with @makeithomeygk
@ArrogantHair Holy snacks! It was 500 when I got on! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€‹
@ArrogantHair might explain why itโ€™s so slow and it wonโ€™t let me put up a banner pic!
@Birdpainter Yeah, just be patient. The server can handle everyone - but when they are all interacting at once it can cause delays. Heavy traffic on all the instances.
@ArrogantHair plus one more. Figured I'd stake out a spot here if Twitter does go down.
@ArrogantHair I am one of them! Iโ€™m excited to see how this works. Iโ€™ve been in twitter forever but Iโ€™m excited about the open source nature.
@Derekmajor @ArrogantHair Well, I'm excited Batman decided to join us on the Twitter migration ๐Ÿ˜…โ€‹

@ArrogantHair @Derekmajor

Pretty neat! Thanks for the tips man.

@oliviergoulet @Derekmajor
I am a geospatial full stack. So if you ever need web mapping tips I am here.
@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet maybe Iโ€™m getting old but I have no idea what geospatial web means ๐Ÿ˜‚
@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
Google Maps, the little maps on store websites that show their location. Those are the most popular things.
@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet ok I get google maps, displaying on websitesโ€ฆetc. Iโ€™ve done that many times. Do you do API work with or custom implementations instead of just embedded code?
@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
I build enterprise integrations. i.e. build back end to hold spatial data, processes to link and then the frontend UI.

@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet

Currently building the frameworks for municipalities to link all their work order systems to talk with payroll/accounting and then linking to infrastructure. So field workers have an app with a map showing a hydrant to be repaired - they click to say I did 2 hours of work. Management has a dashboard with showing map of asset replacement/repair status, also showing they are within budget.

@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet now thatโ€™s cool! My team builds out custom CRM systems which has some field service work on the customer service side of things.
@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
Nice! - so we work on the same things, I am just more focused on getting the CRM to talk with the mapping components.
@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet yeah I didnโ€™t realize how involved the mapping side would be but I guess it makes sense. Mapping is usually something we take for granted lol. Kinda like when Google started charging for their Map API at one point!

@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
And I just looked at your company website - yeah, my current company overlaps a little, but we primarily do integrations. I am at https://www.spatialdna.com/.

So we would work/partner with you to automate workflow integrations to municipal/corporate mapping/planning software. So if your CRM needs to be tied into Cityworks/ESRI or you just need cloud processing of data - we would handle that.

Home

We design and build integrations to connect your apps and free your data.

@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet makes sense. Really cool stuff.
@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
On the personal side though - if you run into issues with Leaflet, OpenLayers, ESRI mapping component issues with your development I am around.
@ArrogantHair @oliviergoulet sounds good, much appreciated! Looking forward to getting to know you.
@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
Will forward your contact info to my CEO and team, to see if they want to reach out if there are any synergies. We are running monday and there may be needs I am unaware of as we are growing fast.

@Derekmajor @oliviergoulet
But I have also build routing delivery apps for a company that does flower delivery.

All cases it is largely API, but with lots of development for UI and backend.
