I know I’m still learning a lot...I don’t know about others, but I came from a very insulated background in some ways. I am sure I have unintentionally hurt and excluded people. I’m trying to listen and learn and understand.

I know what it’s like to be excluded and not have a voice in places that are supposed to be sacred. I think making sure we leave room for the voices of others is a huge part of making it a safer place.

@ameredith, maybe it would be helpful to do a post to introduce moderators? And maybe provide some details about what the process might be if someone has an issue or concern and wants a neutral third party to help resolve an issue? Do you have enough people who have volunteered to help with that sort of thing? Idk how this place works!

@WhollyHollye @LindenTheScribe @davidmschell I think that something like that would be helpful. I am planning to upgrade the Mastodon software this weekend, which should give me the ability to add some links and content to the interface, which I can use to link to a page with more info. Right now, it is me @idhrendur , and @megara who have admin/moderator access. Let me know if you would like me to add you as well! I'd love more ideas about how to make sure this community stays non-toxic!

@ameredith because I don't have enough to do already... Yeah, I would be open to being a mod. As the parent of two kids under 5, I am skilled at rolling my eyes and making decisions everyone screams about. I like to think I'm fairly level-headed, but I definitely have biases. Fairly good at reading rules and deciding if a thing goes against them.

Are the mods gonna have a live chat on signal or something?

@davidmschell I think having an out-of-band channel for the mods is a great idea, especially since DMs on here are decidedly not private. I need to run right now, but I'll get you added later today!

That sounds like a great plan! I don’t think I would be a good fit for an admin, but I would be happy to help get information out by boosting posts, helping answer questions, pointing ppl in the right direction, etc.

We appreciate the work you’re doing! When you decide how we can best chip in to help keep things running, let me know and I will share the link or venmo or whatever.
