A bunch of long time mastodonians are suggesting that newcomers take the time to learn the rules, to recognize what is and is not "courteous" where the tools of the site are concerned. That's fine, and I agree.

However, I also want to make clear that you have every right to insist on being your whole, complete self in this new space. Insist on it and keep insisting on it until whomever says otherwise relents.

@shengokai I think everyone should be themselves and be honest but those things should be done with consideration. So here’s some advice.
Caption pictures to include people who have visual challenges.
Put content warnings on edgy, sweary or political stuff. Give people a choice or a moment to decide.
Be inclusive
Don’t be a dick. Seriously this is important (and I am not calling you one, it’s a general appeal). Be thoughtful and constructive in any argument.
