Seems increasingly likely the other site will be going down soon!

Don’t forget there’s a tool you can use to find the Mastodon profiles of folks you interacted with on the bird site! It can generate a csv of all the Mastodon handles in the profiles of those who you follow, share lists with, or are followed by! You can import it to Mastodon, easy peasy, though it needs the bird site to be live, may not be forever unfortunately! Check it out here: https://fedifinder.glitch.me/

Fediverse accounts of your X/Twitter followings

I’m very happy with my time on #ScienceTwitter and devastated at the idea I’ll lose it, so I just ran this tool (link in previous post) and followed a gigantic csv’s worth of accounts, literally hundreds, sorry folks! Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess!

Also if your account on the bird site is still active, think about putting your Mastodon handle (@ username @ server) in your bio, profile name, or pinned tweet! Just in case

@skwinnicki how do you download your followers from Twitter?
@shannonskalos sorry, should’ve gotten the link in this post too! Too desperate to connect with everyone ASAP, didn’t take the time to communicate effectively!
@skwinnicki Excellent move! I’ve realized the key here that’s made it fun & active is following lots of diverse people (vs Twitter where it wasn’t as much fun until I had enough people following *me*)

@krisnelson exactly!! I love the ecology and evolution folks on my server here, but I’m more than just an evolutionary ecologist! It took so long to build all these connections on Twitter and explore all my interests, this was a nice way to try to regain some of that!

It’ll take me a bit to lose the Twitter impulse to “go viral at all costs!” here (healthy to not think like that anyway haha) but at least this way I can see more people with more interests!

@skwinnicki thank you so much for sharing this!
@Cora no problem!! I hope I’m not inviting everyone to an app that steals their Twitter login data, but given that the site may be gone soon I thought it was worth the risk! I’ve worked so hard to build a community there, I’d love to maintain some of those connections if possible!
@skwinnicki
Same. I hope I don't need to make the switch, but I figured it's better to get ahead and learn about this place just in case.
@Cora definitely! I like it here, folks are nice and I’ll keep posting here, but this space so far hasn’t filled the void that Twitter’s leaving for me! I’m desperate for Twitter to stick around! As much as I want the owner to fail and face personal ruin I’m very attached to my space there (my friends and connections, my reach there, my ability to get breaking news and random updates and jokes there)! Hoping it stays in some capacity for sure!
@skwinnicki wow -= thanks - this is a phenomenal tool ...
@phylogenomics really hoping it isn’t stealing everyone’s Twitter data for malicious reasons, of course! But since Twitter may only be around for a few more hours it seems worth the risk for me!
@skwinnicki great tool! I was happy to find out ~10% of people I follow in Twitter were already here!
