A dude that harassed a fellow woman in tech earlier this year has now turned his attention to me.

I blocked him on Twitter because of his behaviour to that woman.

He reached out to my Instagram and wondered why I had blocked him.

I blocked him on Instagram.

I woke up to him messaging me on Facebook and email yesterday.

Each message has progressively got more aggressive and threatening.

Today I have woke up to more emails.

This is NOT okay behaviour folks!

@Techielass why do people wonder why these things happen when they have zero privacy enabled online?

His behavior surely isnt okay, but there are ways to protect against this.

@Anachron @Techielass victim blaming isn’t the way to go with this one. Repeatedly sliding into peoples inboxes once it’s obvious they don’t want to engage with your creepy-a$$ is not OK.

The point of social media is to engage with people: having a public social account is no more an invite for stalker-ish behaviour than a short skirt is “asking for it”.

@Infosanity we all know people like these exist. But giving them easier ways how to do evil things doesn't help the status quo.

I also find your comparison with skirts very unfitting. A better comparison would be: Do you give out your work and home address out to strangers in public so that you can socialize? Probably not. So why is social media different?

The problem isnt as easy as "This guy is evil so only he needs to change". But people love to blame everyone else.

@Anachron social media, the clue is in the name, social.

It’s not the equivalent of your home address; it’s the equivalent of the town square, library, coffee shop, park. Shared public space; with etiquette and social responsibilities to match.

But I suspect we’re unlikely to change the others perspective; if you want to go to bat for the guy and make excuses for the behaviour, you do you.

@Infosanity thank you for proving my point!

If you were to go into a town square/coffee shop etc. you shouldn't be surprised about running into people you dont like/who dont like you.

It's exactly like this in the internet. If you let everybody know everything about you and contact you, dont wonder when bad guys do it.

I am not protecting the bad guy. Hell no. This is such a lame attempt at discrediting my view. I am saying I wouldnt be surprised about people doing this.
