Twitter was the main way I had to market and promote my books, which I was really hoping I could make my main income. But now I'm like "how am I even gonna possibly reach potential readers? How am I going to be able to get the word out about my queer socialism book that I've been writing?"
@ChaosCatgirl queer socialism? Hi leftie bookstore comrade here. Who's your distributor?
@MarchViolet I am Indie Published with Kraken Collective. Queer Fantasy Socialism is still a WIP (entering final edits, though), but I have a prequel novella that focuses a lot on disability, trauma, and identity set in the same universe, alas, it is ebook only right now: https://daxmurray.com/shades_and_silver/

@ChaosCatgirl found ya on pubstock. No Canadian distro, but Ingram will do in a pinch. Exchange rate is murder though.
@MarchViolet if you don't mind paying shipping, I can send you a few signed copies of what I have out and published currently
@ChaosCatgirl I'd have to work it out with the head capitalist depending on margin and shipping costs. Just wondering how to communicate more directly?
@ChaosCatgirl lemme know when you got an ARC of your latest work though.

@ChaosCatgirl Same boat, same fuckin' boat. If it helps, the engagment I've gotten here is actually much, much BETTER than Twitter, even with 5k followers. So there's some hope thre.

And you know I'll boost at least.

@ChaosCatgirl
Hey, gang! Dax is writing a queer socialism book!

I'll give you a boost, too, and I've got some followers that will be interested.

This isn't a wait and pray algorithm, this is word of mouth. Tell me about your book!
@dennis_jernberg

@edclayand @dennis_jernberg so used to algorithm-think, very much being heartened by all the reminders that this isn't a place with algorithms!
@ChaosCatgirl That's why I boosted your post. People need to know. 🙂 @edclayand
@ChaosCatgirl 👀 Tell me more?

@RadioAngel Secondary world fantasy, heiress to a trading empire (not pirates! pinky promise. they only uh. work with them...sometimes...) accidentally catches the eye of a spoiled prince, marries the prince and helps the socialist revolution destroy the monarchy from the inside. Also includes: ancient magical orders, secret societies, lesbians, cat girls, unicorn people, prophecies and "i guess we are technically rivals but what if we kissed?"

i got a prequel novella type thing that just focuses on the unicorn people here: https://daxmurray.com/shades_and_silver/

@ChaosCatgirl cool! Looking forward it to! :D
@ChaosCatgirl as said, huge advantage here, you aren't at the mercy of an algorithm you don't control, talk about your books, hashing, and hashing some more, not saying its perfect, but it puts fewer barriers between you and potential readers
@counsellingkaren this is very, very true. something I hadn't thought of, either.
@ChaosCatgirl Genuinely can't tell if this is a jokey "oh-no how will I ever find the queer socialists on Mastodon 😉 " or a straight-up "oh-no how will I ever find the queer socialists on Mastodon 😞 "
@ifixcoinops it's both a joke about the number of queer socialists here and also a genuine lamentation that my best way so far of getting new readers has been Twitter, and I'm disabled and selling books is how I pay my heating bill, and well.

@ChaosCatgirl I'm sorry for you. :/

But for what it's worth, I'm preeeetty sure you'll be able to find some queer socialists on Mastodon. :]

@ChaosCatgirl I mean, hello, I am interested in thoughts on queer socialism!
