every once in a while I go to the #'introductions hashtag or the local timeline and say hello to someone who's just joined and is posting for the first time. I figure new neighbors may feel more welcome if someone says hi back the first time they say hi.

I'm not trying to greet EVERYONE - I figure probably some other folks are also doing this organically. Likely no need for a formal welcoming committee if enough people take it on as an occasional thing

@brainwane The 'welcome committee' concept is a great way to offer small doable tasks for individuals who would like to volunteer time in supporting their neighbourhood.
@mackiwg @brainwane , I suggest that every now and then we skim through the # introduction posts and respond to either anyone who no one has responded to or anyone who posts an introduction we like. If enough of us get into the habit of doing this then we can make people feel more comfortable and welcome.
@brainwane I like to do this as a new arrival. And on my server I also try and tag in the local # to help people reconnect.
@brainwane it's like baking a virtual pie. It's heart warming.
@brainwane It's a lovely thing to do. When I arrived on Monday, a couple of people said 'hello' and it was so nice to feel welcomed to a new and bewildering place. X

@JaneTomlinson Oh good :) Wish I could offer you a cup of tea as well. So here's one:
