Twitter really gonna go away or nah?
@mikemadrid who knows for sure. If there are any employees, how’s it suppose to function?
@KC @mikemadrid
I'm not a tech person, but there has to be a reason so many people worked there. Losing more than half the workforce and working whoever is left into the ground can't be a good sign.
@mikemadrid I don’t know, but I am glad I started looking at other platforms.
@mikemadrid what do the exit polls say?
@russcontreras The exit polls say Twitter is stronger than it was in 2020 but not as strong as 2018. But it’s also performing stronger in some states than others. It also appears the users are older, whiter and more Republican but young people and Latinos are taking credit for its survival.
@mikemadrid tech is like a roller skate. It can coast on its own for a while but eventually will come to a stop without someone to push it along. Sounds like entire departments left Twitter today, even if they scraped up replacements who is going to train them
@mikemadrid don't know, but I'm glad to have this place in case it does.
@mikemadrid I sincerely hope it doesn’t. But how long can it go on with less than 300 employees? Not a lot of buyers waiting in the wings to rescue it… 🤷🏻‍♀️☹️
@mikemadrid Don’t think it will go away completely. Might be maimed, though.
@mikemadrid
I'm going with nah....
@mikemadrid as long as Musk is there it’ll never be the same. It may recover, but it’ll be a long time before it’s recognizable.
@mikemadrid Probably with a whimper and not a bang. Something will break and no one will be able to fix it. I'm glad to have this place as a backup.
@mikemadrid I doubt it will go away instantly. Past social media sites rarely disappeared with much fanfare.

@mikemadrid
It would be interesting to see him try to sustain it without the proper development and tech support needed for a web-based entity...and of course all the other areas that are vital to keep it legal and afloat...

Either way, I'm now learning to navigate this sich...as a back-up-soon-to-become-main probably...😬

@mikemadrid It might survive or it might not. But will it exist as an instrument that can help support democracy here and abroad? That, I highly doubt.
@mikemadrid as an engineer that worked in tech, I can say there are lots of things that can break and no one left who knows the intricacies of how to fix them. Kind of like a plane crash, it takes a chain reaction of all the right pieces to break and the whole thing goes down.

@mikemadrid

Well, going by past history (AOL, Compuserve, MySpace, Tumbler, Vines, etc.) yes.

Yes, it will. They all will eventually

@mikemadrid you’re the one that’s the strategist, what’s your opinion on it?

@mikemadrid

There are reports of Musk firing SpaceX employees for speaking out against him (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/17/business/spacex-workers-elon-musk.html), so he has demonstrated he can run a company in this manner. But It sure seems like he is intentionally trying to run Twitter into the ground.

SpaceX Employees Say They Were Fired for Speaking Up About Elon Musk

Charges filed with federal regulators accuse the company of retaliating against eight workers over an open letter critical of the chief executive.

The New York Times
@mikemadrid going away? No, I don't think so. Losing its relevance? I suspect that's the reality. Kind of like a former American president riding to the bottom of the dumpster fire on the top of the heap.
@mikemadrid
Elon is going to take it public so instead of losing 44 billion he only loses 22 billion
@mikemadrid Truth Social failed, so the bad people have bought Twitter.
In the meantime, while money is wasted on such nonsense, the planet is rapidly becoming uninhabitable.
