Republicans need to net five seats to take control of the House and have so far flipped four. Right here in New York. If we lose the house majority…we can find the reason here.

New York Democratic Party Chair Takes No Responsibility for Elections. So What Does He Do?

“I know that there are lots of people that think I’m the worst person in the world,” Jay Jacobs said, “but the truth is I’m probably only in third or fourth place.”

@yuhline
You mean because NY followed the court order to reduce gerrymandering in their maps, while FL and OH did not?
@TCatInReality @yuhline That's only part of the story. In 2021, NYS had 5 statewide ballot proposals. Republicans campaigned against 3 of them. One of the proposals would have adjusted how the bipartisan redistricting commission would work. Part of it was attempting to make it harder for the commission to stalemate. The state Dem Party under the leadership of Jay Jacobs spent $0 on campaigning for them, so 3 failed, the commission stalemated, and then the gerrymandered maps happened.

@LiberalBMan @yuhline That’s interesting. Thanks!

Certainly NYS Dems had screw ups. But I’m not blaming the national loss of the House on the one state that chose less-gerrymandered maps.

@TCatInReality @yuhline Personally, I am blaming Jay Jacobs, New York State Democratic Party Chair at least in part. He also compared a black Democratic candidate for mayor to David Duke. https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/politics/2021/10/19/ny-democratic-chair-jay-jacobs-under-fire-for-david-dukes-analogy

@LiberalBMan @yuhline
Yep, Jacobs is responsible for many of the NYS screw ups.

But in the big picture of the House, it’s GOP gerrymandering (and court order defiance) that is the primary cause.

@TCatInReality @yuhline That's why I said "at least in part." I can acknowledge that gerrymandering and ignoring courts ny Republican-controlled states are also part of the problem.
