Y'all remember that viral post going around about how NO ONE wants your handknitted/crocheted things?

I just got a sweet note from a friend who said she was curled up under one of my afghans. Was it a GOOD afghan? No.

But it's just a reminder that the best friends appreciate the gestures of your love.

The people who don't? Are probably telling you something about themselves.

@beebrookshire I feel, too, like there's also so much in where it's coming from. Like -- did my niece just learn to make hats and everyone is getting awkwardly-made hats? I may not wear it, but my heart is full.

If it's in the spirit of "I must give you something and therefore I will give you this" then maybe vibes or off, but so often the spirit is passionate or excited or something else that brings me joy as a recipient.

@platypus Yes! And also the ugliest hats are often the warmest.
@beebrookshire my husband still has a scarf from my horrible knitting adventures during college (never could get gauge right) and I'm sometimes like "you know we can.... buy nicer scarves" and he says "yeah, but you made this for me!" (college was a good 15 years ago at this point)

@beebrookshire

The knitted gifts will age better over the long-term than all those crypto gifts, that's for sure. ;)

@beebrookshire I sleep under a blanket stitched together by a now dead cousins from rags. I can look at any square and imagine some story. It's also like a piece of my family's history in the American West. So afghans,, things crocheted, my wife's cross stitching which is remarkably good...you bet.
@beebrookshire
I adore all the handmade things friends made for me and try to send pics of them in use. Every time I use that blanket or this cloth, I think of the person who made it for me.
@beebrookshire What?? My friends do a whole holiday gift exchange where the rule is that your gift has to be a craft you've never tried before. Every gift is a beautiful disaster of love! This year I'm trying needle felting...
@beebrookshire Oh yeah that tweet was the source of SEVERAL lengthy tirades from me, and I continue to double down on the fact that people who are ungrateful about thoughtful handmade gifts are IRREDEEMABLE DICKS.
