Renewing my prediction that "difficult to decarbonize" sectors are going to prove less difficult to decarbonize than commonly anticipated.
@drvolts i suspect (and ardently hope) this will turn out to be the case with greenhouse gas removal across the board once we get our act together.
@samaffolter @drvolts Somewhat sceptical of that. It's so much easier to not emit these gases in the first place than to pull them down after first being allowed to disperse. It's an energy thing. But perhaps there will be an 'oh shit' moment where we're gonna do it anyway, no matter how expensive.
@martinvermeer @drvolts my suspicion is that we're going to find ways to use/monetize what's pulled out. As these techs become more efficient and folks see companies profiting, there will be more willing participants, which in turn will drive further innovation.
@drvolts I suspect many sectors are merely "inconvenient" to decarbonize, rather than technically challenging. If that's the case, the question is how to make maintaining the status quo less convenient than making the needed changes.
@drvolts aviation will still be difficult though.
@Transportist @drvolts also agricultural machinery and small boats. In all cases bio/synfuels likely the most viable option.
@drvolts Who should I follow in aviation? Seems like the biggest outlier now.
