Buried in the footnotes of Jeremy Hunt's Autumn Statement is a massive tax cut on bank profits. Surcharge cut from 8% to just 3%.
@adambienkov Did the bankers agree to pay more income tax on the condition that their shares paid higher dividends?
@adambienkov will nobody think of the poor shareholders 😭

@adambienkov A desperate attempt to keep banking business in London perhaps?

Not that I think it would particularly help.

@adambienkov So much for this version of the government being honest with the British Public

@adambienkov Isn't it strange that over the past 15+ years, the only industry sector governments have shown much interest in is financial services. Everything else can be left to wither, but finance must be protected all all costs. It does beg the question of whether the City Remembrancer is *only* an observer with no special rights or privileges, as their role is supposed to be, or whether they unofficially have a more favourable relationship with government...
@adambienkov This just seems completely unnecessary, given the mess we are in. I haven't seen anything about banks asking for this.
@adambienkov the Feckers have to look after their chums in money.
@adambienkov The devil’s in the detail, in more ways than one.
@adambienkov good to know you are here 😊
