How do y’all feel about posts that mention “boost this if…”? I find it disrupts the flow of genuine conversation, though I get why it’s done. Without boosts, the conversation can’t get as far. I just wish there were more adoption for natural boosts based on people doing it themselves rather than asking for it.

I guess it feels about as icky as a YouTube creator asking for thumbs, shares, and bells—but here I don’t want to interact with a brand or an idea. I want to talk to people.

@MarcelineLeiman I don't like it at all, for the same reasons you've mentioned. It's falling into the same "promote me now" bucket that made other social media sites so draining.

I'm finding I'm using muting of boosts. If someone boosts a lot, I mute their boosts. I want to hear what they have to say, not what they boost. If someone rarely boosts, then I will put more value into what they boost. And if someone asks for a boost, I'll probably mute them.

@scottnicholson @MarcelineLeiman bingo. I've already started muting boosts on a few people and making notes via the private note on a profile field to keep track of stuff like that. If they want to do that, that's on them, but I'm not after that.

I'm not here for promotion, I'm here for conversation and information.

@MarcelineLeiman @scottnicholson @gpage oh wow, I didn’t realize you could take notes on users. That’s a feature I wanted on the bird app for ages. Hmm looks like it’s not accessible from the Metatext app though, bummer.
