Mitch McConnell—who is in an interracial marriage—just voted no on codifying interracial marriage.

If this is what MAGA GOP thinks about their own spouses, imagine what they think of Black & brown people unrelated to them.

@QasimRashid what is "codifying" please? Thx
@MerylORourke @QasimRashid they can’t force states to validate anything, this is due to how the federal govement can’t force states to enforce federal law. What is being Codie is here is how states must recognizes marriages legally performed in other states including inter-racial marriage, and repealing DOMA which blocked marriage protections for same sex couples.
@skymtf So they just might not recognise the marriage? If I went to that states suddenly my husband has no rights to be my next of kin??
@MerylORourke I assume states would get to decide on that, though technically you have a full credit clause in the bill, my best guess is this will be entirely "up to the states" which again is an ugh. but there are limits of what congress can do, I doubt it will ever be the same.
@MerylORourke @QasimRashid ask Mr . Google
@drk @QasimRashid Or, you know, I could make more conversations on a discussion website which I've just joined, or that, ya know? Find out in his own words and discuss. Or ya know we could just all scroll silently in our own little bubbles.
@MerylORourke @QasimRashid I could scroll by but sometimes I feel snarkey...
