This uplifts me during a rough week: #Edmonton #PublicLibrary is offering library users CO2 monitors to check out. Everyone can start taking measurements about indoor air quality -- and if it's not great, they can fix it or add air filters or wear better masks.
The library only announced it today and there are already 23 holds for 21 devices. People WANT to measure and improve #IndoorAirQuality, they just need tools + info!

@kdnyhan Neat! I've been asking Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) and UVic libraries to start CO2 monitor lending programs since August and haven't had much luck yet. I did notice there's at least 1 program in BC now in North Vancouver:

195 holds in 7 devices! Very popular indeed!

CO2 Monitor Kits | North Vancouver District Public Library

Borrow a CO2 Monitor Kit to measure indoor air quality at your home or small office!   Good air quality can help our community lower the risk of airborne infections as well as support our general well-being.   CO2 Monitors measure the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in an area to give an indication of how well-ventilated it is. Knowing the CO2 level can help you identify if you

@missmatsuko But yikes, that ratio...
23 holds : 21 devices --> interest and access --> :)
195 holds : 7 devices --> lots of interest but insufficient access --> :(
@kdnyhan I work ER and all I see is covid, flu A and RSV
@brainrusted Thanks for your work. I hope that you and your colleagues and patients have a safe environment.
@kdnyhan I'll be very interested in seeing whether the aranet 4 is durable enough to be lent out of a library and come back intact.
@pacquah Well, Peterborough Public Library has been lending out Aranets for months now, going back to March 2022. I haven't heard of any durability issues (and I probably would have - our advocacy group CAVI, Community Access to Ventilation Information, has stayed in touch)

@pacquah And at the individual level, my personal Aranet has survived more than a year with me, and I'm super clumsy šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø
I mean, yes, I have not dropped it in water... yet.... If I do I will regret tempting fate by tooting this!
@kdnyhan oh this is great, though the number is now up to 68 holds!
@kdnyhan i have an aranet 4 and even on sale it was a tough pill to swallow, but im glad i did, it's helped improve my indoor air quality immeasurably and i feel a lot better overall
@anna It also helped you improve your indoor air quality MEASURABLY 😹😹😹😹😹

@kdnyhan what an amazing thing for the library to do.

I just bought on for my house and my teenage son is fascinated with it. We brought it to the dinner table and he enjoyed watching if it rose while we were talking and eating.

@kdnyhan I love this idea!
@nic221 You know, academic libraries can do this too - lending monitors and info packets. https://www.cavico2.com/set-up-a-co2-monitor-lending-program

@nic221 or check out this cool implementation: live feed of readings from various indoor spaces inside the library.
@nic221 they also show a half-day view. If I wanted to study in this library space, I'd arrange my day to do it early.
@kdnyhan Thanks for the info. I’m going to recommend it at our library.
@nic221 So glad! When it happens, please tell CAVI and we will put it on our map

@kdnyhan just used my sensor today to confirm a building I was in didn't have great ventilation.
