Sometimes I take pictures of animals that aren’t birds, although these Flying Foxes may count as honorary birds anyway! Taken in April 2022 in Adelaide, South Australia

Since folks are enjoying these photos so much, here's a bonus (very) short clip of a wider view of part of the colony!
@subtraho these are just beautiful creatures!
@lee I completely agree! Thank you!
@subtraho Gorgeous shots! I must find a roost near me in Brisbane to get some of these lovely creatures. The only other time I see them are when at sunset/sunrise when it's just too dark to get sharp images.
@Option1 Thank you! I hope you find one and enjoy visiting them!
@subtraho I love seeing the flying foxes. When we lived in Hampstead Gardens we used to see them regularly flying out to find fruit.
@admin That would be amazing to live nearby! I was only in Adelaide for a short time but was completely entranced by them.
@subtraho i would love to see that.
@DarcyShoop It is definitely worth looking out for if you live near any colonies.

@subtraho I do love our colony in Adelaide, and I saw a documentary recently where they attached tiny cameras to them.

They found the bats find plenty of food in the parklands and peoples backyards so all of the farmers worried they would eat commercial crops have nothing to worry about.

@danmac That's really good to know! They are such interesting creatures to spend time with.
@subtraho I’m not a fan of the animals, but awesome photos
@subtraho
Fascinating to see the veins in their wings.
@Forbestonow Agreed! I love how translucent they are!
@subtraho awwwww 🤗
