I need to make a mini one-shot (to complete within an hour ideally) for my students in my D&D club at school. Any recommendations? #5e #dnd

@carmel

Keep it simple and give your students lots of opportunities to explore and go off the beaten path. I'd have a list of 3-4 encounters that aren't part of the main plot that can be used if they do something unexpected. I'm guessing that they'll absolutely love derailing whatever plot you come up with.

@carmel What about a crypt with a fairly easy puzzle to get open and then nothing inside but a big chest of treasure that turns out to be a mimic! That would be quick and might surprise students not yet familiar with the mimic trope.
@carmel How hard is the #5e constraint and would they be able to come back for a second or third game? I have a "default recommendation" that I've used a few times for short games, but it's not #5e at all and there's a lot more to explore than what fits into an hour. But it's concise, four pages and a map, totally free, and (in my opinion) excellent. And who doesn't want to rescue kids from an ogre? https://download.immersiveink.com/DDSupplements/Secrets_of_the_Old_City_Cover.pdf https://download.immersiveink.com/DDSupplements/Secrets_of_the_Old_City.pdf
@phf it’s definitely not a strict constraint. And yes we have a lunch DnD club where I get the kids for 30 min/week. Not ideal but I just want to give them a taste of DnD to get them into it
@phf thank you for the recommendation! Downloading now.
