Automattic is one of the most important companies on the Internet.

They make Tumblr, WooCommerce, Akismet, LongReads, WordPress—among others.

WordPress alone powers ~44% of the world's websites.

More interesting: despite being such a large, dominant company, few people hate Automattic.

@atomicpoet Because, even if they power half of the web, they are not managed by billionaires with some big ego and have etical ways to monetize their software without having to fire half of their workforce out of the blue, maybe?
