In the long run, we elders are going to have to get in better shape, not just because of more frequent pandemics as the ecosystem frays, but also because there simply won't be enough younger people to look after us all. Global economic decline in and of itself will give many threatened species and communities some breathing room, but if we want to have a chance at long-term survival... I don't know
