Wyndham Court, #southampton. #Brutalist flats and shops built to look like an ocean liner superstructure.
@ChrisPonting Was looking at this - https://www.tumblr.com/theendofthepub - earlier. There are several pubs listed that were pulled down to make way for that beautiful monstrosity.

@DJDarren Really interesting. So much good lost for so little gain. The Dog and Duck lost to West Quay looked quite the place!
@ChrisPonting The Dog & Duck always fascinated me. Disappointing that it was pulled down before I could go in there.
@DJDarren @ChrisPonting the dog and duck and the club downstairs called Thursdays was a great laugh and hold special memories for me. Ironically I had an ex whose grandparents lived in Wyndham court and it was only very recently I learned it was based on a ship
@kevmarmol @DJDarren Wish I’d known Southampton when The Dog and Duck was around, I’d certainly given it a try!
@ChrisPonting I have a real soft spot for Brutalist architecture. Wish I could have seen some when they were first built.
@wideawakewesley I love it, just wish it wasn’t so maligned - It should be celebrated as a product of its era. Hopefully more will be protected and not go the way of Birmingham Central Library.
@ChrisPonting always reminds me of the map “Bloc” on COD 4 😜
