I think I'm going to spend the next few days going through my (much too large) collection and making a "absolutely must keep" list. See how few games I actually would feel sad about losing.

There's a lot of "oh I haven't had a chance to play it yet!" and "this would be perfect for this very specific situation/player" in my collection that could likely be removed, and even more "yeah, it's enjoyable enough" games. I'm guessing if I got real aggressive with it I could cut out quite a bit.

@ofdiceandmen I’m doing this now, actually, because we’re moving soon. Really makes me think about why and what specifically I like about the playing experience.

@Kevmeeple Beside each game I've felt compelled to call out I'm writing a reason why. Makes me think about an actual concrete reason to keep it around, and makes me realize how many more games I have compared to how many I likely need.

Part of my enjoyment of the hobby is 1) learning new things, and 2) teaching/sharing new things with others, but that lends to a lot of extra cardboard around.

@ofdiceandmen @Kevmeeple every game has to have a reason to be kept vs the rest of the collection at our house, but we typically acquire/divest in certain times of the year so stuff may sit in a closet knowing it's leaving soon, and there are a bunch of unplayed games on the shelf we're working through.

We churn >80% of the games we acquire each year. Some of that is because we get a lot of weird stuff from Japan, but some just don't break new ground compared to older/other releases.
