This is how they compare to fossil cars now, and how they will in 2030 based on current emissions targets in four primary markets. A zero carbon economy is possible. We can eliminate fossil fuels entirely.

In short, "what about the batteries and the mining" is an impotent effort to spread FUD that depends on the public not knowing just how huge the footprint of fossil fuel extraction and exploitation really is. To those that know the facts, it's an objection that is so out of scale with reality that it's funny.
