He will probably do it if Trump does more than tease running - if he outright declares, then Musk will do it. I think if Trump runs in 2024, the circus will come to town all at once, everywhere.
Aris Teon@scottjshapiro considering how many loyal users Twitter has, and the fact that not even the WH, Dem politicians, pundits, activists etc have left despite the site being a megalomaniacal far right oligarch's toy, I wouldn't be so sure.
Twitter is in the hands of the people. And if most of them decide they need Twitter more than Twitter needs them, Musk might turn it around financially.

People don't Tweet to see you or I talk. They go there for the celebs, journalists, and academics.
@Murphysical @scottjshapiro actually I see lots of people who tweet to be heard and connect with others. They hate that the algorithm puts up a wall of silence around them.
But they're just too addicted to the rush of constant outrage and information, to the feeling that they should be where everyone is or else they'll miss out.
Some tend to underestimate how successful these corporations are in manipulating people.

Ligia Morris@scottjshapiro maybe he expects trumpists/maga to pay the $8, since they appear to be the most eager and willing. I hardly see any ads there anymore. All the controversy attracts more people. Twitter is a sad joke now, like those magazines with photos of aliens and D-list celebs gossip at the check out counters. Also so glitchy, the posts don’t scroll anymore, they jump up and down.

Nicholas Weaver@scottjshapiro Unfortunately for Pony Stark it isn't going to happen. Trump wants that sweet-sweet Truth Social SPAC deal to go through, and if he returns back to twitter, Truth Social (which, IIRC, started as a Mastodon instance! HA) will go foom before he can cash out.
