I’m still blown away that Musk left the fake Eli Lilly account up for 6 hours.

A fake tweet sparked panic at Eli Lilly and may have cost Twitter millions

« For $8, they’re potentially losing out on millions of dollars in ad revenue, » said Amy O’Connor, a former senior communications official at Eli Lilly who now works at a trade association.

The Washington Post
@Aravosis Musk is behaving as though he wants twitter to fail. Have to consider he may have been offered capital to make this happen by those upset by Twitter bans and removal of hateful messaging.
@Transparent It just doesn't make sense why he'd pay $44bn for something, then destroy it. But here we are.

@Aravosis Musk is not stupid. He is a bit loony, but not enough to fail to discern that granting blue-checks to anyone willing to shell out $8/month was going to result in platform being so untrustworthy that advertiser and users would flee.

Convinced this is by design, but what motivated Musk to do this is a great question. Money & power are what usually motivates him.
