Re: early hypertext history, are you familiar with the work of Paul Otlet? I read this article https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/05/in-search-of-the-proto-memex/371385/ by Alex Wright many years ago and found it very interesting to learn about possible influences on Memex.
