One of interesting things about hopping over to Mastodon more is seeing how people reinterpret the affordances of platforms. I guess a lot of people would “fav” things on twitter because of how they interpreted it to act with the discoverability algorithm. I just used it to “acknowledge” posts - “hi, I saw this”
Which I think is partially because one 1) I hated how the algorithm progressively made my experience worse on that platform 2) I use social media in large part to keep up with people that I don’t get to see very often, so a fav is nice little way of doing that
@danjokaz00ie that's the thing with all the fediverse advice about "don't just like/fave something if, you have to boost it in order for people to see it" but that's just how i meant to use likes on the birdsite (ie if i had wanted to boost visibility there I would have retweeted it instead)
