I've visited 25 countries and eaten a lot of stuff outside my comfort zone but my most shocking food experience abroad is still ordering a cheese sandwich in England and getting a pile of cold shredded cheese between two untoasted slices of bread.

I've never felt so far from home.

I was reminded of this while eating red curry that is pretty clearly from a jar of Italian tomato sauce.

@RosEdwards Oh yeah, the "pasta sauce as curry" wasn't in England, that was in Somaliland. Where there is a pretty consistent disjuncture between what you order and what you get.
