@MrDRR I’ve found other instances by cruising the federated timeline. Also see who @rossgrady is boosting, he’s got wide-ranging interests and you’ll likely see something new that way.
Oh! And hashtags!!
@MrDRR @charliereece My conclusion has been that I wouldn’t find sufficient utility in being on more than one instance to outweigh the fact that most Mastodon client apps don’t handle multiple instances well.
If you are in the advanced web interface, you can search on hashtags and then pin the resulting search as a column. You can add additional hashtags which are ORed together, so one hashtag search column can pull a lot of weight.
@charliereece @MrDRR beyond that, at this point even our little instance of a couple hundred people has broad enough tastes that the Federated timeline is full of too much interesting stuff to keep up with. I look at it a couple of times a day and usually see a few people I’d like to try following. You can always mute/unfollow later!
And yes, usually when I boost some random shitpost or photo of an amazing sunset or whatever, 2/3 of the time it’s just something that flowed past in Federated.
@rossgrady @charliereece I think that my biggest problem is that I used the bird app as my primary place to get baseball news and engage in nerd stats/sports conversations and I just don't think much of that community has moved over here.
I did try another instance that was focused on book reviews/discussion, since I also did a fair amount of that as well. When I got admitted I discovered that it was pretty much all in Japanese, so that didn't really work out.
