About an hour ago there was an explosion in İstiklal Street, #Istanbul. According to the early information and images there were several casualties and likely a bomb dropped in a bag.

But right now we can’t have more information because government media watchdog banned any news about it and according to my OONI Probe test results from couple mins ago, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube access is blocked in #Turkey.

Right now my Twitter app loads tweet texts but no luck with video or images. YouTube is crazy slow.

@ahmetasabanci perhaps because there is a genuinely remarkable amount of live footage? There is direct street cam footage of the actual explosion already here on Mastidon. Plus aerial drone footage of the site is already up.

Tbh and it might be too much benefit of doubt, they may be blocking that stuff to try to avoid a follow-up attacl on first responders.

@Jradin I don’t think they’re considering these fine details mostly because of our past experiences. This has become a reflex to control all information about events like these. But now there’s almost no access to information, I’m 100% sure there are dozens of WhatsApp and Telegram groups writing conspiracy theories right now, which makes things worse.
@ahmetasabanci Dipsh#$% all. And yet the truth is almost guaranteed to be sadder.
