It is the job of government to insulate us from the pain of recession, not to exacerbate it.
Come to think of it, it is the job of government to prevent recession, not cause it.
@dminghella The real definition of libertarianism, it seems, is:
Every man, woman and child for themselves.
@TheBossRoss @dminghella succinctly put Bettina πŸ‘
@LindseytheGenie Thank you very much. Itβ€˜s not easy to summarise their cruelty in one single sentence. 😒
@TheBossRoss
At least not without the ranting that you get in the other place. I've been as guilty of it as anyone at times, but it's not really who I am. Being calmer helps clear my mind and hopefully find solutions where I can. It's why I feel so much better here I think 😊
@LindseytheGenie I'mso pleased for you. πŸ€—
I had a mixed day here yesterday with not so nice interactions & by evening felt rather down & unwelcome, so for now I will keep my posts limited to my German word of the day & my morning tweet. I'll check in ever so often to catch people's toots & replies, of course.
@TheBossRoss
I'm really sorry to hear that. Have you reported them? I've seen advice from Mastodon veterans who suggest if you get no joy from the moderators on your server, then swap and report the server. I had one very nasty attack on me yesterday, but most have been really nice thankfully. Hopefully, neither of us will get any more of the same. πŸ€—
@LindseytheGenie Yes, I hope so, too. πŸ€—
@TheBossRoss oh am I glad you are here! Have a German mushroom! Doesn't look healthy, though. (Shakespeare hates Brexit on the place which shall not be named :) )
@Medusa It's colourful, alright. 😁 ... Hello there, lovely to reconnect! For now, my main hub remains Twitter, but I post my German word of the day & morning message here (and read everyone's toots, of course). Sending a remote hug across the new network! πŸ€—

@TheBossRoss I have a foot in both groups, because not all accounts I like have shifted. I hope that this place can become as good at moving political mountains as Twitter (Jack Vs Tesco price rises for example) but it's early days. Until the politicians shift, ... We'll see.

How do you find the level of interaction here compared with Twitter? (Small account interested in big account experiences!)

@Medusa I've always tried to acknowledge & reply to everyone over on Twitter, but 19k is a huge number & sometimes a full-time job. πŸ˜‰
My interactions here have only been a week & yesterday they were rather mixed. By evening I felt a bit down & unwelcome. There's a palpable us v them (old v new users) & while I understand people wish to protect a place where they feel safe & at home, it has, on occasion, made me feel 'othered'. I'm sure, everyone will gel over time.

@TheBossRoss I think this place will be very difficult to adapt to if you have a large twitter following. The barriers for people like me are so much lower.

Thank you for the insight!

@Medusa Ah. Now I feel a lot better. Cheers. 😿
@TheBossRoss that totally came across the wrong way ;( I am sorry. I meant it nicely! You have built up a following with hard work and consistency and you provide intelligent input and positivity (there is a reason lots of people follow you because such a thing is rare). So moving here means shifting away from something that involves your hearts blood - so moving from twitter to here must be so difficult. Is what Ieant.it is, admittedly, not what I said. I apologise.
