I am not a climate activity by any means. However one of the reasons I drive an EV, is because I try to do my bit on climate change. It really upset me to read about the dirty business of oil companies, and the failing of taking responsibility.

Therefore I am hesitant to charge at those companies… But lots of times I have no choice. Why do councils pay those companies for setting up charging structure, and thus funding them? There are plenty of alternative, better suited companies.

Air pollution: Uncovering the dirty secret behind BP’s bumper profits

How the BBC uncovered gas flaring in an Iraqi oil field, where locals are showing a high rate of cancer.

@dutchart Part of me goes “but it shows them an alternative path” and the other side goes “they’ll just add it to the oil and gas revenues”. Given how bad BPs chargers are it’s easy for me to avoid them, but yeah I’ld prefer better suited companies got the first choice.

@green_bens agree, but reading this article clearly shows that they are not really interested in another path. People are suffering out there and they don't take any responsibility. They have the money, they have the possibility, and choose not to act.

In my home town, they only working chargers are BP and Shell, and I can't charge at home. Bothers me a lot.

@dutchart That’s straight up nasty if they’re the only ones in the area.

Agreed that the companies are only interested in profit above everything else. There will come a time when BP/Shell/Exxon get hit and hit hard suffering they’ve brought.

@dutchart I know it isn't comfortable, but if the big oil companies find they can make more money through renewables than from oil surely that is a good thing? I don't think we can solve the climate crisis until big business can see value in alternatives.
@Soupdragon to a certain degree, but here it shows they don't care about people, only about profits. I rather see other companies raking in profits, companies that at least have some moral standards.
@dutchart Ideally yes, but the big corps won't go away so we need to encourage them to do the right thing. After all we buy our EVs from established auto makers. I certainly did.
