Mira is checking on the pumpkin ale fermentation.
@jhpot nice. it’s been a while since I did home beer brewing. Are you doing anything fancy for temp control?
@uhandrew Nothing fancy! Just relying on the ambient temperature in the room. This is what we usually do, though we mostly brew ales which are pretty forgiving.
@jhpot cool, this was my method too. Ales fermenting at room temp. In the summer I sometimes put the fermenter in a big rubbermaid full of water to maybe keep the temperature steadier but I have no idea if it helped.
@uhandrew Our garage stays cool in the summer so I just put them there! It works well great.
@jhpot I remember starting an ale in July one year, just as a heat wave hit. Apartment got very hot. I had to attach a hose to the fermenter to handle the foam — the poor little air lock kept getting blown off. Beer wasn’t too bad in the end though.
@uhandrew Ive had fermenters hit my ceiling 12 feet up yeast is wild man
@jhpot haha now I do a small batch of kombucha every week. It’s like russian roulette. I sloppily measure how much sugar I’m adding with a measuring cup and never check specific gravity or anything. Bottle it when it “seems done”. I use plastic bottles though!
