Mainstream Media’s coverage of 2022 was even more absurdly pro-Republican than 2016 (1) I had no problem reading the same polls as Mainstream Media and seeing Democrats likely to beat raw average and compete for 51 seats …
Republicans value cheerleading, even if cheerleading horserace coverage not helpful, thus Republican pollsters flooded raw averages w/ Republican-biased polls to prove their loyalty, then Mainstream Media demanded Republicans would beat that biased average: to prove their loyalty
(2) Much more important to me Mainstream Media committed to Republican narrative that voters cared about inflation & “crime”, and faithfully reported endless stories about how important inflation & “crime” was to “red wave” …
This Republican/Mainstream Media narrative is not just wrong, but misinforms US: it implies that crime was terrible & growing (it is near historic lows & down from Trump-era bump) and that Republicans had policies that reduced crime (unregulated guns increase crime) …
The Republican/Mainstream Media narrative on inflation disregarded how successfully we had come through global pandemic, including strong employment & wage growth that cut into much of inflation …
(3) By going all in on Republican narrative the Mainstream Media completely minimized two powerful issues: abortion & democracy. Not only is abortion rights critical question of women’s healthcare access that affects all of US: elections directly affect policy …
And this election cycle started with MAGA attack on Capitol & ended with MAGA assassination attempt on Speaker Pelosi, and many Republicans were explicitly running on ending republic: and Mainstream Media refused to connect dots on this narrative & the election …
Mainstream Media did not just misread polls on horserace and what The People cared about: they deliberately misinformed US on polls, pushed a bogus Republican narrative, while willfully ignoring what really mattered to US. All in service of trying to win over love of Republicans.
@DavMicRot What is in it for them? What do they hope to get out of it? More stories about diners in Trump country?

@mizrobin @DavMicRot

So I had put this together, which I think does an adequate job of connecting the salient points: https://link.medium.com/LP1LKL2OTub

@DavMicRot . David! You articulate this so well! You’ve read my thoughts! Why has no one in the media except Jennifer Rubin been able to say this clearly?
@JenRubin

@DavMicRot They also disregarded the fact that Drumpf's agreement in 2019 with Putin/MBS to reduce oil production caused the insane gas prices.

His corporate welfare during the pandemic allowed corporations to pocket funds for employee retention & lock in prices inflated by supply chain problems during the pandemic. Rather than dropping prices back to pre-pandemic levels once the supply chains opened up, they continue to raise prices purely for profit & to fund stock buybacks/dividend payouts.

@DavMicRot media has f’d up political reporting since at least 2015 - in a meaningful way.
@DavMicRot Nick Fandos STILL couldn’t stop doing this the day AFTER the election! Just stunning to see his impermeability to unwelcome information arriving from the actual world

@DavMicRot
I stopped watching, significantly.
Even Kornacki seemed to show excitement
pushing possible GOP wins on his whiteboard.

Is it Corporate pushing this narrative?
The only reliables seem to be Joy Reid and
Rachel Maddow.

@DavMicRot So you acknowledge that hugely inflated expectation was an albatross-sized problem round the GOP's neck?
Maybe letting the GOP drink its own Kool-Aid is a good strat, in a Napoleonic "don't-stop-your-enemy-when-they're-committing-errors" sort of way.
