For all the white flight ppl who think this place is any better for folks like me and other BIPOC, please have a look here. https://twitter.com/IBJIYONGI/status/1590833026334064640?s=20&t=NV4cVEmOaX8Smj2UXHCTCA

@Axel_Folio
To be fair though, it is better precisely because of this.

We can actually do something about it here; I'm pretty sure the Muskrat over there probably giggles at the n-word...

@jrm4 Is that why any instance of the n-word is immediately removed on Twitter? It always has been AFAIK but here it gets to stay for days?

@Axel_Folio I was under the impression that it was the opposite? That's what many others have been saying, that the n-word runs rampant on twitter.

Either way; I mean this decentralized model offers at least the possibility for "the people" to come up with their own rules.

@jrm4 And decentralization has allowed moderators to abuse that already as many Black digital humanists have written abt and been saying.

And no, as we've seen and been saying the word is absolutely not more rampant on Twitter.

Yahooist Teil der Yahoo Markenfamilie

@jrm4 The word was removed immediately, which is not what Yahoo reported. Whereas the word popped up on here & floated around for days bc moderators wouldn't remove users or the posts attacking Black scholars.

@Axel_Folio

Hmm.

Either way, big picture.

Twitter's a private company. If Elon Musk wants to go full Nazi (no for real I think he would) he could.

Mastodon is federated. Flatter hierarchy means greater chance at change, or hell, we could *literally* build our own.
