The new Twitter Blue brought in just $488,000 in revenue, while the verified fake accounts caused billions in havoc.

Elon Musk's $8 Twitter Blue hasn't made very much money so far

Here's how many users actually signed up.

@noahshachtman
some percentage of that is one time revenue too.
@noahshachtman on top of staff shortage to fix the imposters. Best self owned ever.
@noahshachtman but does he care if the $ flows to him while the havoc happens to others?
@ahungerford @noahshachtman Because the company Twitter will be sued for billions by the companies who have lost billions
@noahshachtman what goes around comes around. Oligarch buys shiny new toy he doesn’t understand or care about & he destroys it … luckily there are other beautiful toys he can’t get his hands on.
@noahshachtman half a million is pretty good for a week or two worth. would mean... what? six billion a year?

@noahshachtman

(And lost advertising income)

@noahshachtman the article has some flaws. Main issue is that Blue just launched in some countries (as they wrote as well) and so the percentages are highly misleading as they compared them to global user base. 2nd is that SensorTower like other similar tools sometimes really is far away from correct numbers especially with smaller revenue datasets. Still I believe it will not work out for Elon (hopefully)
@noahshachtman So could somebody please explain how this guy is such a terrific businessman and visionary? Where did/does his money come from that he can kiss it away so easily?
@noahshachtman Astonishing ROI! Go, BlueChecks!
@noahshachtman The idea that you could just charge $8 to be verified is hysterical. Verification can cost money, but needs to actually verify that you are who you say you are!
@noahshachtman it's like a how-not-to manual for strategic business management
@noahshachtman Imagine as an alternative an €10/year subscription with new features people really wanted. Target 25-50m sign ups. That could have been viable - instead of a price level no social media offering anywhere charges, for questionable value (and that's before it turned out to be platform poison)
@noahshachtman I made this meme just before they rolled out the blue verification, totally underestimated the resulting carnage
@noahshachtman who would have guessed it was a terrible idea. Driving millions of his platform scared of advertisers
@noahshachtman I'm just wondering if possibly, hear me out here, just maybe, and I realise it's controversial... he's not the genius some people think?
