As a newbie, would someone please let me know what a federated timeline is? And why it moves so fast? I feel like whats-a-name, in the Fifth Element, watching all those videos speeded up! 😳

Local Timeline: This is a firehose of chronological status updates from just your home server (c.im).

Federated Timeline: Firehose of status updates from any server, limited to "neighbors." The simplest description I've read is that Federated includes "posts from every instance that your instance knows about" — so it's something like everyone you follow (instance agnostic), everyone they follow, everyone from Local, everyone that everyone in Local follows... and so on!
