mofumofu@mdmrn I don’t like to think in terms of knowledge “gaps” because it slides into the topic of who is a “good” geek or fan and gatekeeping and all that stuff. I prefer to frame it as: I have different interest and not enough time
@mofumofu I get what you mean. And I never mean to use it offensively. I've been calling it a "Geek Gap" for a while of things that I noticed seem to be generally known amongst my geekier friends that I have 0 knowledge of.
Often for me I've found it's less about lack of interest & more of, "I missed this when it came out & not know nothing about it. Wonder if it will interest me."
@mofumofu And, frankly, I've only been using it to reference for myself of things I missed cause of whatever reason (generally being a Dad and having no time) that I was interested in getting to check out eventually.
The biggest one recently was Scott Pilgrim & was so glad to check out that series. Loved it, even if Scott Pilgrim himself was a turd. 🤣

Dumpling-chan@mdmrn Hell yeah dude, hope you're enjoying it. Bleach fans love it when new folks get into the series. Prominent anime YouTubers like TotallyNotMark and MothersBasement just recently read through the manga so you're certainly not alone. The new anime's got people interested.
@LovelyDumpling That's what I've seen so far - been very friendly BLEACH fans. I'm mostly posting it up this way as a joke...cause I've got all sorts of geek gaps in my nerdy knowledge. BLEACH is a big one.
@mdmrn That's pretty exciting tbh. I've always wanted to see more people get into Bleach, but it's always been a hard sell cause of how long it is. So people coming on by to check it out themselves is always nice!
@LovelyDumpling I mean, I read the #OnePiece manga from the beginning and fully caught up. If I can do that, #BLEACH is a cake walk 🤣
@mdmrn Hahaha, now that's where my own geek-gap is lol. It's on the backlog, I've got the first few volumes ready whenever I'm ready to read through, just.... eventually. 🤣
@LovelyDumpling I've been reading it through the #ShonenJump app digitally. At $1.99 a month getting access to the full archives, it's definitely the fastest/easiest way to do it.
Plus...I can screenshot stuff to share all over my socials (and I do) 🤣
