I (foolishly?) signed up to take part in the stitching of The Spirit of the Highlands and Islands tapestry designed by the artist Andrew Crummy. I am very much a novice stitcher, but there are a group of us in Assynt stitching the panel, and already the project has engendered friendly get togethers, with more planned. I hope to get LOTS of advice from those in the group more knowledgeable than i regarding stitching. #tapestry #SpiritOfTheHighlandsAndIslandsTapestry

It was Andrew who designed The Great Tapestry of Scotland, which is now housed in a custom built building in Galashiels.

The Spirit of the Highlands and Islands tapestry will eventually be housed in Inverness Castle.

Today it is blowing an absolute hoolie outside, so instead of venturing to my workshop I'm tucked up indoors, and planning to practice a few stitches. If you've any good websites/youtube tutorials you can highly recommend for stitching advice, please let me know.
@helenlockhart Mary Corbet does a lot of tutorials, also try pintangle.com, and another which I shall find for you when I have turned on the laptop.

@helenlockhart Also try queeniepatch.blogspot.com, specifically the Sunday Stitch School strand.

And if you have a specific question, feel free to ask. I may not be able to answer, but I may know someone who can..

@helenlockhart I would expect a group working on a collaborative project like that to be very happy to share ideas and advice, so I am sure it will be fine.
@virtuosew Yes we're a group of mixed abilities, so I'm hoping to learn loads! Me and stitching needles are not usually good friends, but I'm determined to improve that situation.
@helenlockhart I just read the article about this project. It sounds super interesting. Looking forward to seeing your panel.
@Groundsel Ohhh where did you read about it? I've seen so little about this particular tapestry.

@helenlockhart looking forward to seeing your progress. The whole Scottish tapestry movement is a fine one and definitely an all ability movement so I’m sure you will do fine!
