@heck @masshypnosis thanks for the question! The main challenge I see is the potential to violate FOSTA-SESTA in which sex workers = sex trafficking under US law. The consequence in doing so (advertising sex work) would put kolektiva at risk from federal prosecution because FOSTA-SESTA directly attacks our normal protection of "Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act".

@heck @masshypnosis with that said, it's not so much the concern with anyone tryna hustle a buck / make a living / put bread on the table as it is that terrible set of laws that could put the whole instance at risk.
If another mastodon instance existed outside of US jurisdiction by being physically located in a nation that didn't have such hostile laws, I think the main concern would be alleviated. I imagine there's technically inclined people out there that could assist in starting your own instance and federating with others, giving you full autonomy while keeping connection with the larger user bases.
