Literally just listen to BIPOC when they say something is affecting them. I dealt with enough ā€œwell meaningā€ cishet white liberals on Twitter who were all too willing to compromise the rights of marginalised communities so they could feel comfortable. If marginalised communities saying your space is hostile to them makes you uncomfortable, maybe step back and think about why that makes you uncomfortable. Your space you want to be welcoming has a problem with being welcoming and your reaction is ā€œI don’t like thinking about that.ā€

I want Mastodon to work and I want to be a part of this community, but I will not compromise on BIPOC people’s safety and well-being for your comfort. Listen to them.

@littlemacha It's up to us white people to make Mastodon welcoming to everyone. We can't ask you to educate us AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN ... fighting the same battle over and over ... I've been following #BlackMastodon just to follow as many people as I can ... And, I'm asking everyone to search #BlackMastodon and follow people. There's a serious lack of education on these issues ... research, learn, and spread your awareness. Leave your "safe" space and put yourself into other's shoes. I'm almost 60, white & straight, but I have LGBT+ and Black family ... and I'm fighting for them!
@TanjaMcConnor I agree. If I'm not making any space I'm in safe and welcoming for everyone, then I'm not doing it right. And if BIPOC people are telling me I'm doing something wrong, it is time for me to sit down, listen, and change.
