Working on a new plot this morning. I decided to try the ink that came with my Lamy Safari, which may have been a mistake - it’s pretty lifeless. Maybe a second pass will help? We’ll see. 🤞

I'm really impressed with the pen and brush plots in your timeline. The idea of using a brush or a fountain pen in a plotter!

In my experience, Lamy inks don't have much to offer in terms of shading (compared to Diamine or Iroshizuku). And depending on the angle, Lamy nibs can be a bit scratchy with poor ink flow, but they benefit greatly from polishing with extremely(!) fine-grained sandpaper.

@tkurz Thank you, and thanks for the pointer! I was actually just wondering about that, as my Lamy nibs *are* scratchy and have poor ink flow. I have some really fine sandpaper - I'm going to try this. What part do you sand in order to improve things? 🙏

@jeffpalmer
For handwriting I use 1200 paper, the finest I could find, and fill a large circle around my wrist with a very light touch with small circles along the trajectory, back and forth.

And about the inks: there's a whole world of fountain pen ink enthusiasts out there, probably they even have their own Mastodon instance somewhere…

@jeffpalmer
I'm curious though, what kind of hardware are you using? Are these modified standard plotters or is this DYI from the ground up?

@tkurz I'm personally using an AxiDraw SE/A3, but if you're referring to some of the other work in my feed, many of those are from other folks with more DIY setups.

See @tca, @tgk, @nclslbrn, @jimmykl, and @paulrickards for recent #PlotSwap work. 🎉
