I stand with the nurses.
We should all do not only because it’s fair but because we’re all vulnerable at some point in our life to rely on their care.
We need safe & dignified working conditions for a quality healthcare workforce.
I also stand against narratives of division like ‘too many from overseas in the #NHS’.
#Nurses & #doctors from all backgrounds work together for the benefit of patients. It’s harmful to make some feel unwanted on top of all the strain they’re under.
#NursesStrike
UK: Royal College of Nursing votes to strike

If the strike is to be won, or even to go ahead at all, independent rank-and-file committees must be built to lead the struggle. Left in the hands of the RCN apparatus, it will be defeated.

@nisreen I am absolutely with you on all of that.
@nisreen support for all NHS workers is so important 🤗 one huge team
@nisreen Behind you all the way 👏🏽
@nisreen I completely agree. I have a consultant friend in the NHS who says - her words - they are "working themselves to death" because they can't recruit and those who used to apply for roles from the EU no longer do so. (She said colleagues are literally dying early around her). In addition it's a fallacy that immigration doesn't overall benefit a society - all the data shows that it does, so the narrative is rooted in discrimination, not economics.
@nisreen Vocational jobs paying less while telling their workers how much they are valued has to stop. I worked as both a nurse and early years practitioner we were regularly told this. Also that you don't do the job for the money. Yes it's lovely if you enjoy your work but valuing the collective efforts of all from cleaner to boss has to mean paying proper wages for work done on time.

@nisreen very upset that our heroes nurses must actually threaten to strike

How much more obvious does it need be that they need funding

I support the nurses 100%

@nisreen I stand with the patients. A 17% pay rise demand is crazy
@nisreen I went back into frontline nursing earlier this year for revalidation after a 25+ year break from acute care. Those 12hr shifts were exhausting, it was relentless, every shift ending as busy as it started. Frontline nurses deserve everything they are asking for!!
@nisreen no public sector worker should be forced to take a pay cut as a result of the years of economic incompetence and divisive lies being peddled by those who only interests are personal self gain.

@nisreen
Imagine if MPs pay and perks had fallen in real terms by the same amount 😂

( Ok, they don’t seem to do much and a strike might be missed but I’m sure they would round that hitch .. )

I have long said that making MPs pay equal to 2X that of a typical nurse would solve many problems in this country

@Bruce_Ak @nisreen You're being extremely generous. We'll soon notice if the nurses decide to go elsewhere. Who would notice if their MP went AWOL? (Actually would miss mine as he's one of the good guys).
@nisreen I'd like to be paid my worth, given the roles, as a band 2, I have performed over the last two years or so. Way way above my band. From admin to food orders, to preventing ridiculous amounts of potentially lethal situations. Honestly..
@nisreen I am completely behind the #nhs nurses and absolutely agree with a minimum 20% pay rise to get them above the living wage, if anyone deserves better wages and treatment is the front line that protects us all! These people should NEVER have to strike to get what they down right deserve!!
@nisreen I'd also include carers and home helps in that list. #Nurses are not primarily motivated by the money to work. However, if they are forced into a #NursesStrike it is because they can't afford to work.
@nisreen The "vocational" label allows people to shrug shoulders and walk away- it's a vocation, so why expect fair pay? But this is much larger than a pay dispute. It's about what we value in society, and how our tax is invested. There is no plan for social care, and both recruitment and retention are national problems in both fields. Pay is part of a solution, but it's much bigger than that. The action is aimed at improving safety & better outcomes for all.

@nisreen
The Labour Party in Scotland are trying to malign the SNP party that it’s somehow their fault, just for context this is important:
Average pay offer for nurses.
Scotland - 7%
England - 4.75%
Wales - 4.75%

Average salary for nurses.
Scotland - £36,641
England - £33,384
Wales - £36,636

Which party is responsible?
Scotland - SNP
England - Conservative
Wales - Labour

@nisreen
Hear, hear!
Everyone relies on the #NHS at least once in their lives and the peace of mind of having it incase you fall sick is under appreciated.
#NHSPay
@nisreen
Apart from countries that really need to keep hold of their nurses because they have a shortage of them I don't care where they are from. Are they good at their job is what is important.
@jasonpedlow
@nisreen absolutely and those who can't see why you're striking obviously dont care about safeguarding patient safety
@nisreen absolutely. As someone who has been cared for by nurses in the last 5 days, I am amazed how professional and caring everyone has been amidst a planned strike. Bumping their pay seems to me amongst the best use of public money, there is always public money/debt for so much more useless stuff.
Also I believe most voters of any party agree with this, so it should really be a no-brainer to improve radically nurses pay, training, etc.
@nisreen I am totally with all nurses
@nisreen I stand with the nurses, postie's, and anyone doing essential work, they are never properly paid. Nor are they appreciated by a lot of people, but I naively thought the pandemic would have changed. Money was 'found' for friends of the UK Gov but suddenly there is none.
