@capybara Wot? No 5 string?!

@BackFromTheDud I tried 5 strings for a couple of years - had a nice Spector but I realised that I prefer 4. I like the simplicity.

Don’t get me wrong, having 2 octaves and hardly needing to move your left hand is cool, but I discovered that 4 just feels more natural. I was learning a song on the 5 and then moving back to 4 once I had it nailed.

@capybara I went the other way. I far prefer my G&L L2500 five over my 1983 Fender Jazz Bass 4 string. This is partly because late CBS Fenders weigh a frikkin' TON, and the G&L uses Swamp Ash and is much lighter!
I've also got a Squire Bass VI. I didn't NEED it: I just wanted one, and it's far too much fun: 30" scale and one octave down standard tuning means you can do some really weird stuff with it, especially with effects.
@BackFromTheDud do you play a bass VI like a guitar ie with a pick? I’ve often fancied one but I don’t really do surf :-)
