Hello. I’m new here from Twitter. I host a podcast called “Can’t Make This Up: A History Podcast.” I thought Mastodon would just be the new shiny place where we’re all expected to “peddle our wares” as it were. I was rather pleased to discover that this is not that kind of place. I’m quite interested to learn how this platform operates and meet some new history friends along the way.

@CMTUHistory A fellow podcaster! Do you focus on any specific sort of history?

I know what you mean about this place having a different focus - the idea of just being able to nerd out with people, collaboratively rather than competitively, is a welcome change of pace!

@iolarah pleased to meet another podcaster! What is your podcast? I am far too scatterbrained for that lol. I interview historians and authors about their books and I bounce around from topic to topic depending on what interests me.

It seems to have a much more relaxed feel to it versus Twitter. I feel like there’s going to be a learning curve to figure out how to use this properly.

@CMTUHistory Mine tends to focus on music history. I like looking at the contexts that shape what we listen to. I'm not a scholar, so I don't go as deep as others might, but it's still fun to share the stories and music with people. Like you, I bounce around genres and eras. I think cakewalk & ragtime is the farthest back I've gone.

>much more relaxed feel
Agreed, and I agree about the learning curve too. I'm liking it so far, though.

@iolarah that’s really cool! Have you done any episodes on the jazz age or 40s big band? I’ve been wanting to do a bit of a personal study on the music of the interwar and war years.

Me too. It reminds me a Discord a little bit but it doesn’t demand your attention as much

@CMTUHistory I did one on big band, yes, in the first year :) Just looked at the archive and it was episode 30, so I think that was before I got the new laptop, which means that the spoken audio has some extraneous noise from the hard drive. I honestly didn't know if I'd do more than one show when I started, so the audio has improved substantially since the first few episodes. I'm reluctant to "fix" them because I like the progression it shows :)
@iolarah I think we all go on that learning curve as we figure this podcasting this out. Ironically my first episode is my most popular and I think “I promise it gets better!”
What’s the name of your podcast? I’d like to check it out!
@CMTUHistory Absolutely agreed, and, for me, learning has been part of the fun. Mine is The Friday Night Parkdale Special. I hurt my back last week, so I haven't posted Nov 11th's yet. Is yours linked from your profile? I'd like to check out yours as well :)
