Mastodon feels more like how I remember the internet through my rose tinted glasses. Back in the 90’s when it was a congregation of nerds running their own kit. Not the Faceless corporate hellscape it’s become.
When do we get IRC back? How do I reconnect with my fellow nerds?
I’ve been a Sysadmin for almost 20 years even though I moved into InfoSec 2 years ago I honestly haven’t get this invigorated about tech and networking in decades.
@ToeJam85 yeah I’ve mostly moved to Discord, but I’m okay with that because I DIDN’T want to continue running the level of IT Infrastructure I have since the 90s. It was a very conscious decision to move to “shit other people host” so that I can do better things with my time than play SysAdmin.
Both approaches have value and merit! I’m still on a few matrix’s but I choose not to run one of my own. I do however run and manage many, many, Discords as there’s just less overhead and nothing present on any of my Discords requires the privacy we would gain from Matrix.
