My point is that those colours aren't really present in the real image from space: they've been added for artistic/visualisation reasons.

I don't know how I would do that.
I'm also pretty confident that the colours in that image represent something other than the visible wavelengths of light we see in the final result. However, "...whatever floats your boat..."
