Health Secretary Steve Barclay says nurses voting to strike UK-wide - for the first time in history - is "disappointing".

You know what's really disappointing?

Clapping for frontline heroes then not paying them properly.

Refusing to give NHS staff a pay rise in line with inflation for 12 years.

Nurses relying on food banks.

@bestforbritain I recently spent a month in hospital for cardiac surgery. Approval of nursing care and skill is sky high. Barclay's seriously misjudged public mood and sentiment here. #supportnurses #RCN #NHSstrike

@bestforbritain yeah it's crap that it's got to this stage, and I know how much this decision has hurt nurses to make. But the bottom line is that if you treat skilled and vocationally motivated workers in such a way- especially for so long and directly after lauding them for their sacrifice- the DH&SC/G'ment asked for this. You just can't treat people like this with impunity.

@bestforbritain My wife and I saw Steve Barclay walking towards us when our local Court was in process of closure. Instead of talking with us, he crossed the road and re crossed when he had passed by us. He went down in my estimation at that very point and has done absolutely nothing to change my opinion.
