I was wondering if this would be a good place to discuss my love of #whisky single malts, blended malts, and blends. A quick search suggests that I would be talking exclusively with software developer dads lol.
@mountain - I'd love to talk #whisky - #bourbon and #scotch
@ChicagoDave me too! I’m *very* ignorant about bourbon, having only tried a few of the obvious ones, like Bullett Bourbon. I like the way they stand up to being on the rocks better than scotch, but I’m really in the habit of neat pours with a little water.
@mountain - There are all kinds of bourbons, from all over the world these days, but I'd have to say my favorite is #Blanton's Single Barrel. There are others that I like - but this is my fall back. I also like Basil Hayden and Wilderness Trail. AS a matter of fact, I am still sipping through a bottle of Wilderness Trail.
@ChicagoDave thank you! Very interesting. Blanton’s looks expensive where I am (in Austria). Cool bottle though. Basil Hayden’s seems more reasonable, although only 40% abv is very unusual for a good bourbon, isn’t it? Maybe you get a better proof over there. And finally, wilderness doesn’t appear on my usual sources, sadly. :(
@mountain -What is your go to down under? Scotch or Bourbon? Sorry to hear about Wilderness - and yes - Blanton's is pricey.
@ChicagoDave down under? Are you thinking of Australia? I’m in Austria, which is Central Europe. I have no fixed taste, but I’m very Scotch-biased. Big fan of all the styles. I think good blends are underrated, like the stuff Compass Box comes out with. Often much better than most Single Malts imo.
@mountain - Hah! I have to stop posting before I have my coffee. I'm in the States - as you can guess from my handle, but we have traveled Europe some. France, Greece, Spain, UK.
I'm traveling right now, so I'll have to look at the Scotch I'm drinking when I get home on Saturday - I am a fan of Single Malts - I like Islay... Lagavulin 16 is my go-to, but I know I'm drinking something different right now, but I can't remember.
@ChicagoDave Laga 16 is a winner for sure. Shame how much more expensive it is these days. I’m not sure I can justify over 70€ but that could just be me. My favorite Islay atm is Laphroaig Lore. Maybe my favorite whisky overall!
