As these are the early days, we have the opportunity to define together what this new community will be focused on, and how it will function. As Twitter got hijacked by political discourse, algorithms and ads, and Mastodon doesn’t have any of that, we can design this community the way we want. So to all designers out here: what is important for you in this new community, and what should be avoided? What are the ➕ & ➖?
@underware Use CW (Content Wrapper) on posts to note that some readers may wish to skip the following content. They're great!
@drj11 Why post something readers want to skip? Why not post something which is relevant and on topic, and otherwise not post it here?
@underware That seems like a pretty hostile response to me suggesting something that i think is a positive about the Mastodon platform, specifically in response to you asking what the positives were.
@drj11 I’m only trying to figure out what Mastodon etiquettes are, but also how we can avoid that this community collapses due to off topic issues. How can we make this a valuable community? This is something we can hopefully decide together. I just don’t see the logic yet of posting something that readers wish to skip. Let’s see.
@underware @drj11 Maybe you forgot “some”: CW could be useful to talk (constructively) about issues *some* readers like to skip, find stirring or have bad experiences with. To be able to discuss these topics, too, it’s in my opinion respectful to use a CW. But of course you’re right: Post nothing to poison the conversation culture
@charakterziffer @drj11 Is it possible on Mastodon to mute specific keyword, and mute certain threads/discussions?
